We are passionate about creating practical and sustainable opportunities for people to gain confidence and find purpose... it's even better when those opportunities provide different training options at every stage of development.

Tees Valley Community Church has run a coffee shop at the Oakwood Centre for many years. When the site was gifted to us, we saw the potential for this to be part of a much broader offer for the local community; making the most of the surrounding grounds to grow our own produce and welcoming local people to join us... cue the Genesis Project.

With 13 years experience in Landscaping, Matt (our Learner Manager) uses the versatility of the project to tailor work experience opportunities for our Advance Programme learners... and as the project develops these will only continue to diversify.

We're not about one size fits all.

And we certainly don't like sitting in classrooms.

Gareth

Advance Programme:

Landscaping

Keen to regain his confidence after a difficult period in his life and hoping to go on to volunteering, Gareth came to us unsure of which pathway he'd like to take. But, it didn't take long for him to fall in love with the Genesis Project.

With an education history in art and design, Matt asked him to design a sensory garden for the site and Gareth hit the ground running creating a full proposal and presenting it to the team.
.
"I'd just like to say that my time at Three13 has reminded me of all the positive experiences I've had whilst I've worked over the years. I've gained so much clarity since the course began, I'm even starting to consider moving on to temp/seasonal work to build my confidence up."

Annika

Advance Programme:

Landscaping

Referred by the team at Stockton Jobcentre Plus, Annika joined the Advance Programme with a desire to improve her CV and interview skills to secure a full time job or skilled apprenticeship.

Keen to gain practical work experience away from a desk, she opted for the Landscaping pathway and was overjoyed to discover that meant planning, designing and creating a herb garden for the Genesis Project. As part of the tailored project, Annika researched soil condition, material suitability and plants, selecting and building the stones for the feature.

In the Careers, IAG sessions Annika was supported to complete her application for a Technician apprenticeship she found online and prepare for the interview. After she succesfully secured the position, we were also able to provide her with a reference of recommendation. With the apprenticeship not starting until some months later, we  introduced Annika to another local employer and, following a successful work trial, she gained temporary employment to sustain her in the interim.
